Lines and Wrinkles

As we age, it’s natural for the skin to show signs of wear, with lines and wrinkles being among the most visible indicators. While fine lines can start appearing as early as your late 20s, deeper wrinkles tend to develop over time due to intrinsic ageing and external stressors.

Types of Lines and Wrinkles

Lines and wrinkles are creases, folds or ridges in the skin that form due to a combination of age-related collagen loss, repetitive facial movements, and environmental factors. They are a normal part of the ageing process but can appear prematurely depending on lifestyle and genetics.

There are two main types of wrinkles: dynamic and static.

Common areas affected by lines and wrinkles include the forehead, eye area, nasolabial folds (smile lines), marionette lines (corners of the mouth), and neck.

What causes Lines and Wrinkles?

Several factors contribute to the development of lines and wrinkles:

Poor sleep and stress

Inadequate rest and chronic stress can affect skin repair and regeneration.

Dehydration and diet

A lack of moisture and nutrients can impair the skin’s barrier function and elasticity.

Environmental factors

Pollution and blue light exposure may contribute to premature skin ageing.

Smoking

Nicotine reduces blood flow and accelerates collagen breakdown.

Natural ageing

The skin produces less collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid over time, leading to thinner, less elastic skin.

Sun exposure

Ultraviolet (UV) rays accelerate skin ageing by breaking down collagen and causing oxidative stress.

Repeated facial movements

Habitual expressions such as frowning, smiling, or squinting can lead to dynamic wrinkles over time.

Treatments for Lines and Wrinkles at Mizu Aesthetic Clinic

Effective wrinkle management may involve a combination of in-clinic procedures, topical skincare, and lifestyle adjustments. At Mizu, we offer personalised treatment plans that may include the following:

In-clinic treatments

Botulinum Toxin

Botulinum toxin is commonly used to treat dynamic wrinkles by relaxing overactive facial muscles, reducing the appearance of expression lines such as crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead lines. When done conservatively, results appear natural and refreshed. Early intervention with botulinum toxin can delay dynamic wrinkles from becoming static lines. Read more

Titanium Lifting

This non-invasive triple-wavelength laser lifting technology targets multiple skin layers to brighten, tighten and sculpt facial contours. It promotes collagen production and improves skin elasticity, giving your skin a firmer, more youthful appearance while improving surface radiance. Read more

Sofwave

Sofwave is a non-invasive skin tightening treatment that uses synchronous ultrasound parallel beam technology to deliver energy precisely to the mid-dermis, where collagen is most active. This stimulation promotes new collagen formation, resulting in a noticeable skin tightening effect. Sofwave is effective for areas such as the brows, jawline, cheeks, and neck, with visible improvements seen in 2 to 3 months. It is suitable for patients with early to moderate signs of ageing and requires minimal to no downtime. Read more

Thermage FLX

Thermage FLX is a radiofrequency-based skin tightening treatment. It delivers uniform heat to stimulate existing collagen and encourage new collagen production over time. Commonly treated areas include the face, eyes, jawline, and neck, improving skin laxity and smoothing out fine lines. Most patients require just one session, with gradual, natural-looking results that continue to improve over 3 to 6 months. Read more

Collagen Stimulators

There are several types of collagen stimulators, also referred to as biostimulators, in the market. These are injectable treatments that use different ingredients to directly stimulate collagen production in your skin. One such well-established ingredient is poly-L-lactic acid; it encourages your skin to gradually produce more collagen, improving volume loss and skin quality over several months. Another common ingredient is a combination of high and low molecular weight hyaluronic acid. It both hydrates and stimulates collagen and elastin to fine lines, skin laxity and dullness. Read more

Skin Boosters

Skin boosters improve the appearance of fine lines by hydrating and stimulating collagen production. There are many types of skin boosters in the market containing different formulations to target different skin concerns. Read more

Depending on your skin concerns, doctors may recommend:

  • Polynucleotides (PN): Stimulate tissue regeneration and repair.
  • PDLLA (Poly-D, L-lactic acid): Helps in collagen stimulation and skin elasticity.
  • Hyaluronic Acid (HA): Restores hydration and smoothness to dry, crepey skin.

Topical skincare

Your anti-ageing journey does not stop at the clinic — proper skincare maintenance at home is key to maintaining results. On top of aesthetic procedures, our doctors may recommend medical-grade or prescription products that complement your treatments to keep those lines at bay.

Peptides

Peptides are short chains of amino acids that act as building blocks for proteins such as collagen and elastin. When applied topically, certain peptides may help stimulate the skin’s repair processes, leading to firmer, smoother skin over time.

Antioxidants

Topical antioxidants like vitamin C (ascorbic acid) and niacinamide (vitamin B3) play an important role in neutralising free radicals that contribute to premature skin ageing. Vitamin C helps brighten the skin and support collagen production, while niacinamide improves elasticity and strengthens the skin barrier.

Sun Protection

Consistent use of a broad-spectrum sunscreen is arguably the most critical step in any anti-ageing regimen. UV radiation is one of the leading causes of collagen breakdown and wrinkle formation. Daily sun protection not only helps prevent new wrinkles but also preserves the results of in-clinic treatments and active skincare.

Topical Retinoids

Tretinoin, a derivative of vitamin A, is one of the most well-researched and widely prescribed ingredients for managing signs of skin ageing, including fine lines and wrinkles. It works by increasing skin cell turnover, promoting collagen synthesis, and improving skin texture and tone over time. Regular use of tretinoin has been shown to reduce the appearance of fine lines, even out pigmentation, and enhance overall skin firmness. However, it may cause dryness, redness, or peeling in the initial weeks of use, which typically subsides as the skin builds tolerance. Tretinoin should be used under the supervision of a medical professional and always in conjunction with broad-spectrum sun protection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are wrinkles reversible?

While some wrinkles may not be completely erased, their appearance can be significantly improved through a combination of treatments that stimulate collagen production, smoothen skin texture, and relax overactive muscles.

Preventative treatments such as botulinum toxin can begin in your late 20s or early 30s to delay the formation of static lines. Collagen-stimulating treatments are ideal for individuals in their 30s and above.

Most wrinkle-reducing procedures are either non-invasive or minimally invasive with little to no downtime. You may experience mild redness or swelling that typically subsides within a day or two with treatments that require injections.

All treatments offered at Mizu Aesthetic Clinic are evidence-based, performed by qualified doctors, and comply with local ministry guidelines. A detailed consultation will be conducted to assess your suitability and treatment plan.
