Skin Booster for Acne Scar Treatment

Transformed skin: woman showcasing stunning results of Skin Booster for Acne Scar Treatment

How is acne scarring treated?

Acne scarring is most commonly treated with skin resurfacing procedures such as CO2 Lasers or radiofrequency microneedling treatments such as the Sylfirm X at Mizu.

To enhance results, doctors may sometimes also recommend treating acne scars with skin boosters. One such example is the Rejuran S, a more concentrated version of the Rejuran Healer, which has restorative and reparative properties that makes it ideal for treating acne scarring.

“ I’ve seen many patients with scarring – and mostly, they only achieve 40-60% recovery with fractional skin resurfacing treatments alone. Combining Rejuran S with a fractional skin resurfacing treatment is one of the best ways to achieve up to 80% skin improvement. ”

What is the difference between Rejuran Healer and Rejuran S?

Rejuran S and Rejuran Healer are both made of polynucleotides (PN), which promotes skin cell growth through inducing fibroblast and collagen production. Polyneucleotide chains are DNA fragments that repair damaged dermal (skin) cells and assist in collagen stimulation.

The difference between the two would be that Rejuran S is more concentrated and more viscous in texture than Rejuran Healer – these properties allow the Rejuran S be specially suited for acne scar treatments.

How are acne scars formed and how does a skin booster like Rejuran S help?

Acne scars are caused by deep inflammation and cyst formation with scar. After inflammation and injury to the skin by acne, the skin will try to heal itself by producing collagen to replace the ones that have been damaged.

In some cases, optimal healing might not occur, and may instead form twisted bands between the skin and the SMAS layer, which causes the skin to change shape, get pulled downwards and sink in, forming a deep, pitted scar.

Rejuran S helps to reduce the appearance of acne scarring by inducing collagen reproduction and healing of the skin structure. The texture of Rejuran S is more viscous and gel-like compared to Rejuran Healer, and acts like a filler to fill up sunken scars, and at the same time, the rejuvenating properties of Rejuran S will repair the skin at the dermis.

Before the procedure, topical numbing cream will be applied so as to make the process more comfortable.

The skin booster is injected under a scar, in the dermis layer after a subcision is first performed to break up the scar tissue.

A subcision breaks down abnormal collagen and scar tissue (fibrous bands) in the area which will then be treated by skin booster – it repairs dermal skin cells, and stimulates normal collagen production under the scar, resulting in a much shallower scar.

Procedures such as RF microneedling with the Sylfirm X is also recommended together with a Rejuran S treatment. This complementary procedure creates tiny micro-injuries to resurface the skin, smoothen scars, and also act as a stimulus for the skin booster’s repairing and restorative properties to kick in for significantly better results.

Skin booster injections under the skin with subcision has a downtime of about 2 – 3 days of small injection marks. Occasionally, mild bruising can also occur with deeper subcisions.

Combined with RF microneedling, a Rejuran S treatment can have downtime of 3-5 days depending on the energy settings used, and might be accompanied with some redness and slight scabbing as the skin resurfaces itself.

3-4 treatments are recommended for acne scarring treatment with the Rejuran S, each done one month apart.

A better estimate on the number of treatments and possible combination(s) with RF microneedling for each individual can only be advised after a personal consult with Dr YZ Tan.

Acne scarring improvements from the treatment are permanent.

Rejuran S is suitable to treat all types of acne scarring, such as box scars, rolling scars, and ice-pick scars.
