An injectable treatment from IBSA, one of the world leaders in hyaluronic acid solutions, Profhilo is not a filler nor a skinbooster.
However, this soft and self-distributing injectable provides the benefits of both fillers and skinboosters at the same time for an overall skin rejuvenation effect that is subtle, yet remarkable. The change happens gradually over the course of 4 weeks, and you still look like yourself, but younger.
This is due to its unique, one-of-a-kind, manufacturing process which utilises thermal cross-linking of both low and high molecular weight hyaluronic acid.
Commonly touted as an “injectable moisturiser”, Profhilo contains 5x more hyaluronic acid than skinboosters and has one of the highest hyaluronic acid content in the market for injectables! It is also known as 逆時針 in Chinese.
Profhilo is able to achieve the above because it contains 100% of both low molecular and high molecular weight hyaluronic acid.
Low molecular weight hyaluronic acid works by working as a water reservoir and moisturise the skin, like a skinbooster.
High molecular weight hyaluronic acid provides a stable hyaluronic acid structure in the skin dermis to give a volumetric lift – it increases volume like a filler by increasing the production of endogenous HA (hyaluronic acid) and native elastin.
Profhilo stimulates elastin and collagen production to improve skin laxity, something that skinboosters and fillers cannot provide. Because it has a much smoother consistency than fillers, it spreads out evenly under the skin without forming any lumps.
Profhilo is not like a filler, nor a bio-revitaliser (like what Rejuran is). It has opened up a new injectable category – bio-remodelling.
A hyaluronic acid product that does not utilise any chemical cross-linking compounds, Profhilo is thermally (using heat) bound to generate stabilised complexes of low and high molecular weight HA.
Thermal cross-linking changes the structure and behaviour of hyaluronic acid. These thermally cross-linked hyaluronic acid chains are able to ‘biomodulate’ skin tissue, resulting in improvement in hydration, volume, and collagen production. Thermal cross-linking also allows both low and high molecular weight HA to be linked together, and at the same time slowly released and spread out when injected under the skin. This dual action is most ideal for re-modelling skin laxity.
It does not contain additives such BBDE or Lycodine. Its unique production process promotes homogeneous scattering and absorption in skin tissue, for safer, side-effect free results.
Profhilo is used to treat skin laxity, improve skin quality, increase skin hydration, and increase volumetric lifting of the areas targeted. It can be used to treat skin laxity and skin quality almost anywhere.
Common areas treated include:
It is most suitable for:
Profhilo is not a replacement for fillers nor muscle-relaxing toxins. It does, however, rejuvenate and give the skin a lift to further complement or boost the effect of the subsequent treatment. It will be best to speak to your doctor about what would help your issues the most.
The full treatment consists of two sessions, 4 weeks apart.
The first session stimulates hydration and provides a volumising effect. The second session serves to ‘boost’ the effects, and ensure longer lasting effects.
The effects of Profhilo is immediate, and continues to improve over 6-8 weeks. A third session can be repeated 6-12 months later depending on individuals.
Profhilo is injected under the skin using very small needles.
The protocol for Profhilo on the face requires it to be injected on 5 points each side of the face. The process is made more comfortable with numbing cream applied on prior to the procedure.
Slight soreness around the injection points can sometimes be felt for the first 1-2 days.
There is minimal downtime, and most people can continue with normal activities. As with most injectable treatments, bruising and some soreness can sometimes occur.
A small bump over the injection site can be observed for a few hours after the procedure. There is no need to massage this bump as it spreads under the skin by itself.
For patients with thinner skin doing neck treatments, the bumps may stay for a longer period of time, but can be gently massaged in to reduce the downtime.
There are no long-term side effects, as Profhilo is broken down by the body completely. It is also bio-compatible, and doesn’t cause any inflammatory reaction.
Although there are minimal side effects when injecting on the face, except for occasional bruising, it is important to make sure that you find an experienced Profhilo doctor as there are vital blood vessels to avoid when injecting in areas such as the neck.
The injection technique is important in achieving optimum results. It should not be injected too deeply into the skin, as this will not produce satisfactory results.
There are only few clinics in Singapore that have been chosen to launch Profhilo in 2019. Mizu is one of these clinics appointed.
